Position Title:
Development and Marketing Director
Definition of Position:
SoundWaters seeks an exceptional development professional who is passionate about our mission of protecting Long Island Sound through education to inspire confidence and develop opportunities for donors among individuals, corporations and foundations. The Development and Marketing Director is responsible for strategic leadership and day-to-day management of SoundWaters foundation and corporate relations. Additional responsibilities include support to Board Development Committee and to annual appeal and special events. Will report directly to the Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in: 1) development communications, including grant writing; 2) developing and managing a portfolio of major donors; 3) soliciting and closing major gifts and/or corporate sponsorships; 4) marketing and branding of organizations and programs; 5) successfully working at the Board level.
Principal Duties:
- Create and lead fundraising within corporate, foundation government revenue streams;
- Conduct targeted research on and outreach to potential funders;
- Draft letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and general correspondence for corporate, foundation and government donors;
- Formulate budgets to support programs and proposals;
- Maintain calendar and tracking system of all grant related information ;
- Coordinate fundraising and special events with Annual Appeal and Special Events staff;
- Provide support for the Development Committee of the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilties:
- Identify and prioritize corporations, foundations and government agencies to support SoundWaters mission;
- Cultivate long-term relationships with corporate, foundation, government agencies, and other institutional officers to ensure continued funding;
- Prepare and submit sophisticated proposals and financial plans for grants;
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Board members to strategize concerning larger, multi-year institutional support;
- Create and maintain positive relationships with program staff and work with them to achieve development goals, including relationship management and reporting;
- Provide accurate, timely reports to foundations and government agencies;
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in fund-raising and grant writing, 5-10 years experience working with corporations/foundations preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate SoundWaters programs to donors; demonstrated creativity and innovation in communications and fundraising efforts
- Ability to create and direct long range plans; proven leadership & decision making skills
- A strong understanding of and commitment to the work of SoundWaters
