Students investigate hidden pollution

Students from Archbishop Stepinac High School took a closer look at the waters of Long Island Sound this week, filtering through water samples and searching for a little-known type of pollution: microplastics! Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic that can come from many sources, including degradation of plastic waste, leftover pieces from manufacturing, and even additives to cosmetic products. Stepinac students found plastic in every single sample! Learning more about this type of pollution is an important step in solving the problem; learn more at NOAA today.
