The World of Flatfish and Aquaponics

December 4, 2014/in Blog

The SoundWaters education team set off to expand our knowledge yesterday!

Three educators attended the 14th Flatfish Biology Conference yesterday in Westbrook,  CT. There we learned about flatfish species locally (Long Island Sound) and globally (Gambia, West Africa).  Fun fact: During daylight Winter flounder stay sedentary,  but at night they come alive and migrate to new locations!

The other Educators on the team attended the Introduction to Aquaponics Workshop in Stamford, CT. They learned how fish and plants can create a highly productive growing ecosystem for vegetables from FRESH Farm Aquaponics.

Both conferences were very educational and we can’t wait to apply what we learned to our programs!
