Do you want to help out at a SoundWaters community event? Want to work on an environmental clean-up project? Need to fulfill your community service requirement? We would love to have your help at SoundWaters. Here are some of the volunteer opportunities throughout the year:
Coastal Cleanup: Monthly
Our coastline is one of our most precious resources and all of us must chip in to keep it pristine. SoundWaters is leading the charge, but needs everyone’s help. We host seasonal clean-up days when we will provide you with gloves and bags to walk the public shoreline and pick up human debris. We weigh and catalog everything collected before disposing of it in the appropriate manner. Coastal clean-ups are ideal for friends, families and teams. Learn more about Coastal Cleanups.
SoundGeneration – High School Interns
SoundWaters internship program inspires high school to make a difference in our local environment. The Interns program provides on-the-job skills training, mentoring, and research experience for students in high school and college. Interns are introduced to some of Long Island Sounds most precious habitats and the animals that live there. Interns must be at least 15 years old and currently enrolled in high school. SoundWaters Flotilla: Saturday, July 16, 2022
SoundWaters’ newest community fundraising event will welcome hundreds of kayakers and paddle boarders to paddle from Cove Island on Stamford’s east side to Boccuzzi Park on Stamford Harbor on the west side. All participants will be raising money to support scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to afford SoundWaters education programs. We need volunteers to help on planning committees and also on the day of the event – on land and on the water (boaters and advanced skill kayakers) for this colorful, fun and festive event. Learn more about Flotilla.
SoundWaters HarborFest 21: Saturday, August 27
A celebration of Stamford Harbor, SoundWaters HarborFest is a full day of fun and educational activities on and next to the water to bring people down to the Harbor Point waterfront. We’re celebrating Stamford’s greatest natural resource. We will need volunteers for advance planning committees and also to help set up, break down and manage activities like dockside boat tours, the waterfront green village, seaside golf links, Stamford’s largest oyster bar and the famous Cardboard Kayak Race for the Mayor’s Trophy! Learn more about HarborFest.
