It’s all about fun, but we still need rules. Make sure you follow ‘em or you’ll be DQ’d.
Teams must register in advance. No walk-up registrations.
Boat-building teams can have a maximum of six members.
The finished boat must be paddled by two members of the team. No one else is allowed in the boat. No loose items, especially items that can sink, are allowed on board.
Boats can be constructed from supplied materials only; No other materials are allowed in the boat building area. Each team will receive: ten sheets of 5’x5’ corrugated cardboard, ten rolls of clear packing tape, three rolls of duct tape, utility knife, yardstick and marker
Teams have two hours to build their boats, starting at 12:00pm
Crews will be provided paddles and life jackets.
The crew compartment CANNOT be enclosed so as to interfere with escape if your boat becomes a submarine! Both crew members must be visible at all times during the race.
Costumes and decorations are welcome and encouraged, but they must be safe, completely buoyant and may not aid the structure or floatation of the boat. No sharp edges or pointy things! No loose items or items that sink are allowed on board.
During the race, the crew must be IN the boat, not towing it, swimming or allowing their life jacket to aid the boat’s floatation in any way.
Boats are subject to inspection prior to the race. Boats and teams may be disqualified for violation of any of these rules.
Crew members must sign a “Hold Harmless” waiver before the race. Crew members under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver. If one of the crew members is under 13 years old, the other must be at least 18 years old.
Both crew members must wear a PFD (Personal Floatation Device). No boat will be allowed to start unless both crew are wearing a PFD.
Any participant thought to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be prohibited from participating in the race.
Be creative and have fun!
