We are thrilled to offer you and your students the SoundWaters Coastal Explorers program this year.  Thanks for being a wonderful partner!

Program Goals:

  • Increase students’ knowledge of watershed systems & Long Island Sound
  • Engage your students in meaningful experiences in the Long Island Sound watershed
  • Support & amplify science standards

Coastal Explorers is a 3 step program:

  1. Distance Learning
  2. In-school program
  3. Coastal Field Study

 

Step 1:  Distance Learning

Time

  • 1 class period

Content

  • The watershed slideshow is a full class interactive activity.
  • The teacher notes contain slide by slide directions and talking points for you to successfully lead this part of the program.
  • I encourage you to review both the notes and slideshow prior to presenting it in class.

 

 Step 2: In-school program

  • The SoundWaters education team is really looking forward to meeting you and conducting hands on experiments.

Step 3: Coastal Field Study

  • Gear:  Supplied by SoundWaters on-site
  • Chaperones:  4 school representatives (min), additional are school’s choice
  • Weather:  Rain or shine.  If weather is bad, we will communicate the day before
  • Clothing:  Emphasize outdoor clothing/shoes
  • SoundWaters staff:  4 Educators

Content – Customized for you

Below are some of the options available:

  • canoeing
  • water testing and analysis
  • live animals/ form and function
  • soil sampling
  • seining
