What should I pack for my child every day?
- A bathing suit and towel (your child can come to camp with their bathing suit on)
- Change of clothes
- Hat
- Water shoes (with a heel-strap, no flip flops)
- Water bottle with child’s name on it
- Healthy lunch and snacks
- Sun block, bug spray (optional)
- Rain gear (weather dependent)
Will my child need to wear a life jacket?
Yes, all children in any small boat sailing program are required to wear a life jacket at all times. SoundWaters will provide a life jacket for all sailing campers as well as the boats.
Does my child have to know how to sail?
No, children do not need any prior experience on boats to participate in any of the SoundWaters sailing programs except Sharks, which is for advanced sailors that have already mastered smaller boats.
Does my child need to know how to swim?
Yes. We will perform a swim test for all the campers. Your child does not have to be a fast swimmer, but he/she has to be comfortable in the water and be able to swim short distances.
What happens if it rains?
Our air-conditioned Environmental Education Center with covered outdoor patio easily accommodate all the campers in case of inclement weather. Our camp program happens rain or shine. While in the Center, campers will further develop their navigation and charting skills, perform experiments in the lab and work with animals in our aquarium.
Who are the counselors?
Camp SoundWaters staff are college graduates or are in pursuit of a degree in the fields of science or education. Some staff members are upper level high school students who have attended SoundWaters programs over the years. All summer staff attends training before the beginning of Camp. Training includes CPR, First Aid, SoundWaters education programs, swimming safety and canoe training, mandated reporter certification, behavior modification and teaching techniques.
Do the campers go swimming?
Yes. Campers go swimming at a specifically designated area of public beach on Long Island Sound and are watched by our own certified lifeguard. Proper attire, bathing suit and water shoes are required.
Can my child be in the same group as his or her friends?
Yes. Camp SoundWaters places campers into groups according to age. For Bluefish, please alert the Camp Director, Christina Genz, of the group of friends you would like to keep together at sign in on the first day of their camp session.
Is SoundWaters easy to get to?
Yes. SoundWaters is conveniently located less than 5 minutes from exit 9 off I-95. Directions can be found here.
If I am not a Stamford resident how do I get into the park?
You will be mailed a parking pass for your session(s). If you lose your pass or need additional passes, you can pick them up on the first day of camp.
Do I need to pack my child a lunch?
Yes. Lunches will be kept in the refrigerator, please no brown bags, regular lunch bags are fine. Children must also come with their own water bottle with their name written on it.
What if my child has food allergies?
We will make every effort to accommodate children with food allergies, but due to the public nature of our site we cannot guarantee that any area is peanut/nut free. If necessary, medication will be administered by SoundWaters Director of First Aid, who is Certified under the ARC or AHA in standard first aid, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, responding to emergencies, and emergency medical response, medical administration and Epi-pen administration training and certification by an RN.
What does my registration include?
- SoundWaters parking pass for Cove Island Park
- SoundWaters camp t-shirt. If your child is registered for different camp groups (i.e. Sharks, Stingrays), they will receive a separate t-shirt for each group on the first day of the respective camp session.
What forms do I need to submit after the registration?
The State of Connecticut requires us to have a Health Form on file for every camper. You may either use the SoundWaters Health Form found here, or send us the State of Connecticut Department of Education Health Assessment Record. The form must be signed and stamped by the Doctor’s office and have taken place within the last three years.
If the doctor finds it necessary to send medication with your child to the camp, you need to provide us with anAuthorization for Administrations of Medication form found here stamped and signed by the doctor’s office for each medication prescribed.
Please read the form instructions carefully. The medications must be received by the SoundWaters staff at the same time your child is admitted to camp. We will not be able to admit your child to our camp without the medication and properly filled out Authorization for Administration of Medication Form.

When is payment for camp due?
A non-refundable deposit of $150 per session per camper is due at the time of registration. The tuition balance will be automatically charged to your credit card, or bank account on May 1, 2019. If registration is made after May 1, 2019, full payment for tuition is due at the time of registration.
What discounts does SoundWaters offer?

- Early registration discount. All campers who register on or before February 28, 2019 automatically received $50 discount off the regular tuition price per camper per session.
Do you offer early drop-off or late pick up?
Yes. Extended hours run from 8:30 am – 9:00 am and from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm and cost an additional $80 per session/week.
Cancellation Policy
SoundWaters reserves the right to cancel a session due to insufficient enrollment. In this event, you will be notified and a full refund of amounts paid will be made. No refunds will be made and there will be no credit given for absences, family vacations, withdrawals or camp closings.
Are scholarships available?
Yes. SoundWaters offers scholarships to those that are eligible for free or reduced lunch according to the State of CT. You can find the Scholarship Application Form here.
