Girls Rule Spring Break at SoundWaters!
It’s all girls, all science, all week at SoundWaters this week. We are hosting 120 3rd-7th grade girls from Stamford Public Schools for Science Stars. Started in 2005, Science Stars is a solid week of learning, exploring, creating and fun and the opportunity for the girls to get their hands dirty doing all types of science and engineering experiments in the water, on the shoreline and in the lab. The Science Stars are split between the Coastal Education Center on Cove Island and our new Harbor Campus on Stamford Harbor.
In addition to dissecting squid and dropping – and hopefully not breaking – eggs, one of the most popular activities for the girls is the Women in STEM speaker series. What better way for girls to learn about the education and career opportunities than to hear from women who have traveled that path before them. Each day, a different female scientist shares her experience with the girls and leads them in a fun, hands-on activity that reflects some part of her field. This week the girls will hear from professional women from PepsiCo, Sikorsky, Xylem, Q88, and the South Wilton Veterinary Clinic among others.
Science Stars is made possible through funding from PepsiCo, People’s United Bank, Purdue Pharma, Xerox and Fairfield County’s Community Foundation-Donor Advised Fund.
