SoundWaters Discovery Team: Water Detectives
Elementary school Discovery Team students learn all about Long Island Sound and its watershed: the different types of water, where it is found in the watershed and how humans – intentionally or unintentionally – affect it along its journey to the Sound. Little do they realize that as they’re learning, they’re uncovering clues to help them solve a mystery! Discovery Team students are confronted with five “mixed up” water samples collected from all over the region. How can they tell which is which? By measuring the amount of salt and testing for the presence of a particular type of pollution, plus a little logic and detective work, students can trace each sample to its source. Mystery solved!
