SoundWaters STEM Academy students sail aboard the schooner SoundWaters
Aboard the schooner, students set the sails, performed a plankton population study, identified benthic animal adaptations, measured wind speed & direction, conducted groundwater filtration trials and hauled in the trawl net. For many this was their first experience on a boat.
Pictured above, students are preparing to deploy a LaMotte Sampler to collect water from 1, 3 and 5 meters throughout the water column. Samples were then tested and comparisons made including salinity, temperature and dissolved oxygen levels. All data was written into their lab books.
