What is a Watershed?

January 17, 2013/in Blog

If you ask any 8th grader of Dolan or TOR Middle School, they can tell you! This week the students began their watershed study with SoundWaters. The educators joined students in the classroom to provide hands-on lessons the students used to understand water quality and how the earth acts as a filter. Over the next 2 weeks SoundWaters educators will be visiting Cloonan, Rippowam, Rogers, and Scofield with the same project.

All these 8th graders will continue their watershed study in the spring when they visit Mianus River Park and Long Island Sound at Cove Island Park. Check back to learn more about their exciting adventures

Answer: A watershed is a large area of land and all the water (precipitation, streams, rivers, tributaries) that travels over it until it arrives in a larger body of water. We live in the Long Island Sound Watershed!
