Our Mission:
Create a better world through joyful learning on Long Island Sound.
Long Island Sound is our greatest natural resource, a source of fun, relaxation, beauty, food and commerce. It is also extremely fragile, subject to the constant downstream pressure imposed by eight million people who live in its watershed. Our collective actions determine the health of the Sound.
SoundWaters teaches the science of Long Island Sound to thousands of students every year at our two coastal locations and aboard our 80-foot teaching schooner. As they grow, they will be better prepared to manage the environmental challenges they will inherit on a global level. When they discover the Sound, they can embrace the world.
Aaron sailed on the Schooner SoundWaters in middle school in 1995:
“SoundWaters was my first serious exposure to the environment and Long Island Sound. When I look back and wonder why I care about the environment, it’s because of SoundWaters. That experience planted a seed of environmental stewardship.”
