Greenwich Young Mariners is operated in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, Greenwich Community Sailing and the Greenwich Sail & Power Squadron.
The program begins in the spring when students perfect their swimming techniques and begin a STEM-based Afterschool Enrichment Program. Students learn safe boating from the Greenwich Squadron, and Basic First Aid Training (BAT). Over the summer first and second year students participate in in three weeks of sailing and academic enrichment. Third and fourth year students participate in two weeks of half-day sailing sessions and learn competitive racing and sailing strategies. Younger student are mentored by older students. This mentoring program creates a real bond between the students. It helps the less confident younger ones, and encourages leadership skills in the older ones.
Throughout the summer the children also participate in several Big Boat Sailing outings at local yacht clubs and take part in a variety of field trips and workshops.
