SoundWaters Flotilla – July 12, 2025
Talk about a movement to protect Long Island Sound! This event actually moves – from Cove Island Park on Stamford’s east side to Boccuzzi Park on the west side – hundreds of people of all ages and skill levels paddling kayaks and paddle boards in a big, colorful flotilla of small boats, finishing with a great party celebrating a fun day and a job well done. Everyone paddling is telling their friends and family and raising money to help SoundWaters teach more underserved kids about Long Island Sound.
Coastal Cleanups – Monthly
Our coastline is one of our most precious resources and all of us must chip in to keep it pristine. SoundWaters is leading the charge, but needs everyone’s help. We host seasonal clean-up days when we will provide you with gloves and bags to walk the public shoreline and pick up human debris. We weigh and catalog everything collected before disposing of it in the appropriate manner. Coastal cleanups are ideal for friends, families and teams.
SoundWaters Super Splash – February 9, 2025
Over 120 fun-loving and brave souls kicked off their Super Bowl Sunday at Cove Island in Stamford by by running and jumping into a chilly and “refreshing” Long Island Sound. When they emerged (quickly), they wrapped themselves in towels and warmed up with donuts and hot chocolate on the beach, courtesy of ShopRite and the Cingari Family.
All in support of climate science education.

Over 325 peopled celebrated their Senior Prom at the 2025 Tall Ships Ball on May 2nd. What a fun, passion and emotion-filled evening. A really fun theme, exciting auctions, great food and drinks and live music and dancing! The highlights of the evening were remarks from SoundWaters president, Leigh Shemitz and especially from guest speaker, Leslie Guerra, a former SoundWaters student and now professional climate researcher. All proceeds support Long Island Sound education for all students.
