Half Hollows High School testing water quality in Oyster Bay

Students from Half Hollow High School are lowering LaMotte bottles over the side of the vessel to take samples of Water at 1 and 9 meters. Once they have collected the samples they will compare measurements of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen,and pH.

What do you find in Long Island Sound at low tide?

Ask any of the students from The Hewitt School.  Guided by SoundWaters educators, these high school students spent their morning conducting population studies of the intertidal habitats in Long Island Sound.  Among their findings were Atlantic silversides, comb jellies, green crabs, and pipe fish.  Another exciting Fall day at SoundWaters!

Schooner SoundWaters back in Stamford

After spending most of August visiting ports on the eastern end of Long Island Sound, the schooner SoundWaters returned to Stamford on Friday. As we returned we got a great view of the start of Stamford Yacht Club’s 79th annual Vineyard Race.

Feathery friend following us home

The crew noticed a feathery friend following us as we begin working our way westward. The little tern was using us as a wind shield to take a break as we both head into the 20kt breeze.
